I’m unable to successfully test the Slack New Message step when the channel is private, even when the bot has been invited. I went back and looked at the Slack connection details and it looks like the permission to read messages in private channels is missing. In the screenshot below, I’ve highlighted the permission to read messages in public channels; there should be one for private channels as well.
